Do You Need A Garmin?

Do You Need A Garmin? by bmoore

I'm posting this video from Garmin because a lot of us are wondering about training gadgets right now. Now, Ms. Kastor is the spokesperson for Garmin and Asics (sweet!), so this vid from Garmin is not exactly unbiased. However, take a look and see what you think. The OTHER reason I love this video is because I am just blown away by Kastor's pace and form....a thing of beauty to watch in case you need some inspiration...and she kinda looks like us, doesn't she? ;-) Enjoy!

You can learn more about Deena Kastor here. Oh and BTW - in case you hadn't heard; she's pregnant!

Traxee user bmoore OK so you have an FR60? My understanding is that with the foot pod, measuring distance can be slightly off due to differences in stride and gait from the time it is calibrated. Since it's not hooked into the satellite tracking, I'm not sure there is going to be anything you can do about it - but to tell you the truth, I have the 110 - which IS a true GPS watch and even still I notice some differences in course length over multiple runs.

Traxee user BlueLove2004 I do have a question about my Garmin: Recently, I have been running on a 1mi track. At first, my Garmin registered that the track was less than 1mi. Now, it is saying that it is more than 1mi. Why?? The toe pod is in the same place on the same shoe and the watch is on the same arm every time.

Traxee user bmoore I know. It's an amazing device. I especially like the way it tracked my runs out in the wilderness last August while i was in Southern Utah. I really like seeing these elite women runners too. It gives me inspiration and when I'm running I try to imagine imitating that form. I don't think I every get close, but it's fun to imagine anyway!

Traxee user BlueLove2004 I enjoyed watching Deena talk about the Garmin. I also liked watching the other Garmin videos--it helped me learn more about my watch and how to use it to improve my training.
