I love the interactions I have with people while I am running!
This morning I was on my fast 'n flat stretch when a woman - about mid-thirties and I would say about 60 pounds overweight came out of her house walking a little pomeranian. She looked up and caught a glimpse of me across the street. It was quiet and I heard her say to her little dog, "Pinky, that's what I ought to be doing!" I couldn't resist.
"C'mon girl!" I yelled to her. "Join me...You can do it!"
"Oh," she laughed, "I could NEVER run like that!"
"Yes you CAN! It's easy! Just start by walking - it's all just one foot in front of the other!"
She kind of chuckled at that, but I like to think that maybe, just maybe, a seed of something was planted in her mind. I run past her house a couple of times a week. With any luck I'll see her again and have the opportunity to provide a little more encouragement.
Sometimes that's all it takes to just get started.
