MOTIVATION!

In the beginning I looked forward to and was actually a little excited about my weekend training runs for the SF Marathon. But ever since I got severe hip pain on my 8 mile run (and anything over 8 miles since) I don't look forward to my weekly maintenance runs and weekend group runs. Basically, all the fun has been replaced with pain. OK, maybe not all the fun but a majority of it. Who looks forward to an activitiy that has a lot of pain associated with it? Not me. Stretching helps with the hip pain, but how do you repair a previously motivated spirit?

Traxee user bmoore I totally get what you're saying. Last Saturday I ran over 13 miles and let me tell you, I was crippled. My Achilles was so sore I had to do the ice thing for two days and my quads were so bad I could barely walk down the stairs. It's hard sometime sto tell whether or not the pain is indicative of something serious or just severe aches and pains...which I think mine is. SOrry to say that one of the best things you can do for this type of pain is keep running. It's the only way your body gets accustomed to distances. That being said, I agree with Betty in that if the pain persists and is just as severe several days later, it's time to seek the advice of a chiropractor or sports medicine specialist to find out what's going on. Marathon training is hard enough without pain to deal with!

Traxee user Betty Most importantly...you must care for your hip! Consulting a chiropractor might be your quickest fix and a great maintenance tool. Getting and keeping the body aligned is SO IMPORTANT. Once you have cleared the discomfort, I think your motivation will regain momentum. As you stated, any time there is pain associated with an activity, of course there is little desire to participate. Pain, however, is telling you 'take care of me.' Tend to your body...the mind will follow. Best wishes+
