First Time Half Marathon!

Hey Everyone!! I have always ran 5k's but recently decided to start training for my first half marathon. I'm a little nervous because I'm not sure what to expect! The thought of crossing the finish line to me right now is so far off!! Any advice??? Should I find a partner to train with or train alone for this longer run?? Thanks ladies! have a great day!! :)

Traxee user bmoore Oh peanut butter is a GREAT choice before a run and one of my personal favorites too! I usually do a tablespoon of PB with a small handful of almonds, (plus water) and I seem to be able to go for a least an hour and a half on that during a morning run. Ha ha I just got off vacation during which I TOTALLY gorged myself - so I am going to be on an austerity diet for a while as I begin to train for my fall race.

Traxee user Reagan I am also using the Hal Higdon training plan. I'm running the Disney marathon in Jan so I hope I will be ready. I'm still new to all this running stuff. I have a few 5k's here in the next few weeks and I'm ready. I know that when I really start lengthening my runs I need to tweak my eating. I'm still trying to figure the whole running food thing out. I'm not sure what I need to be eating to fuel my body...anything work better for you?? I usually eat a PB & J before a run and it does great!

Traxee user bmoore Oh cool! which one are you using? I used the Hal Higdon 12 week plan - which I had to compress into 8 weeks, but it worked great for me a couple of years ago. And actually, I too trained alone because I couldn't find anyone who could do the long runs during the week.

Traxee user Reagan Hey Beth! Thanks for your advice! The half is about 5 months away, and I found an online 12 week training program for a half. The whole finding a running partner where I live is kind of difficult. I usually just go run or when I go to the gym to run on the indoor track I'm alone. I never see anyone running when I do so its frustrating.

Traxee user bmoore Hi Reagan! I think the half is the perfect distance - just log enough such than when you're finished you know you've run a race. How far off is your race? For me personally I think that doing the longer runs with a partner really makes the time fly, so if you can find someone to pair up with that would be great. In fact, finding a partner that maybe just a little bit faster (but is patient) can really help.
