Barefoot Run with Born to Run author Christopher McDougall

I thought I'd try a post here at traxee.  Tomorrow I'm going to try to join up with a group of about 60 barefoot runners who are running 8 miles from Central Park in Manhattan, over the Queensboro bridge, and then to a bookstore in Brooklyn.

I can't run the whole way so I'm going to join them for a couple of miles, then take the subway to the party at the end.

I tried to get someone to come with me, but it looks like I'm going to have to get there on my own. I feel a little nervous about that.  I have to find the subways up to the event, then I can't run the whole way with them, so I'll have to walk a bit, maybe even up to a mile more after I stop running to get to a subway where I can travel to the bookstore.  I just spent the past half hour looking at three interactive maps trying to see how I'm going to manage the mechanics of it.  I had to use mapmyrun to see how far I'd be if I stopped at various points and where the nearest subway would be to that point etc... I had to use an interactive subway map to see how close the stops are to the beginning and end of the race.

Here's a link to the event:

Traxee user bmoore Hey 800runnergirl! I am going to start doing drills barefoot as I start into my formal training for my November race...primarily as a way to correct some foot striking problems. Got any advice for a "newbie" barefooter? I will probably run my initial drills on the grass, but then "graduate" to some track work too.

Traxee user 800runnergirl I love barefoot running. I hope you found someone to do it with you. I am a track runner and I train barefoot. I think it is healthy for you. My feet are stronger and my times are faster. Let us know how it goes.

Traxee user bmoore Hi Frescamari! We have quite a few members here in NY; I hope one of them steps up. It sounds pretty fun! Wow! 8 miles barefoot in boroughs! Cool!
