Keep fit for a healthy marriage

People underestimate the importance of physical fitness is sustaining a marriage, especially from the perspective of women. Many women give up on their physical fitness, and weight control, after marriage and end up putting on extra pounds that not only causes them to lose their slender figure but also brings in health issues like fatigue and lethargy. One of the keys to making your marriage successful is to maintain your physical appeal and vitality(love is not skin deep but the your physical presence does make a difference). Simple physical exercises like jogging, skipping and cycling can go a long way in helping you retain that slender figure irrespective of your age. It's also important to be careful with your nutrition, but if you are exercising regularly your diet can be of secondary concern. When you are physically fit and trim it definitely boosts your confidence and personality, and a good self image ensure that you have positive vibes within you which reflects in your relationship.

Traxee user Love2Run Yes, running became and remains my Prozac and I haven't needed anything else! It definitely keeps me balanced and happy, it's all good! :)

Traxee user bmoore Wow! Yeah, I'm sorry to hear about your situation, but I think it serves to point out with even greater emphasis how much fitness is really a major lifestyle choice. Poor guy! If he thinks he will maintain health by taking drugs...whoa ...well...it's good to know that you have maintained your balance. And I bet that running has seen you through some tough emotional times.

Traxee user Love2Run I'm sorry to share that this was very true in my soon-to-be-former-marriage. I started running two years ago, dropped 10 pounds and five BMI points, and my husband remained a couch potato. That was not why I left, but it added to how much less we had in common, and I decided that fitness was a priority in my life. He saw that but couldn't/wouldn't join my enthusiasm for it (and when I met him 25 yrs. ago he was a tremendous athlete!) and I watched him just get bigger and increase his waistline and his cholesterol level, and choose to take drugs instead of exercising to get healthier. Of course I said something, many times! It became one of the many reasons I couldn't stay in the marriage.

Traxee user bmoore Good post. I think this goes for both women AND men. One look around the executive boardroom at my old job told me that as they age, men have as hard a time as women at keeping themselves fit after marriage. Nonetheless, I think you're right. Women put a great deal of their self worth into their looks (and certainly men reflect this back to women). But in a lot of ways, I see this as the same issue as allopathic medicine, which treats the symptoms and not the root cause. I agree with you in that what we really should be doing is putting that same emotional effort into our health - eating properly, exercising, making the time for ourselves - and the good looks (and positive outlook) will follow. This will be reflected in ALL our relationships, co-workers, kids and partners.
