5 Things This Woman Runner Can't Live Without

5 Things This Woman Runner Can't Live Without by bmoore

Traxee receives no endorsement or advertising incentives for any of the products mentioned.

Over the course of 20 years of running I’ve had the opportunity to try a lot of products and services designed for women runners. These are my absolute favorites:

1. Nike Dri-Fit Running T-Shirt

I ran the women’s Nike Half Marathon a couple of years ago and got this t-shirt in my goodie bag. Mine is printed with the race logo, but it's the same Nike t-shirt you can buy in any sporting goods store. The wicking fabric is amazing and it’s slightly fitted so you look great while you’re working out…but not tight.

2. Timex Ironman Watch

OK, I admit it, I do lust after the Garmin 450, but I’ve been running with the Ironman since the early 90s. I’ve had them in all color combinations and this watch’s easy to handle controls lets me clock my splits quickly and without any kind of hassle. Ironman also has the advantage of being inexpensive, the band is comfortable, and it’s very lightweight. Oh, btw, I keep my old ones the way I keep my old running shoes. Hey, running memories, ya know? ;-)

3. Oiselle Roga Running Shorts

Oiselle is harder to find than many manufacturers’ products but WELL worth the extra effort. Also, you can buy their products online with confidence because they fit true to size. I have absolutely NEVER found running shorts that are better constructed, or more comfortable. My Roga shorts fit below the waist and have enough bootie cover in the back – but they look really good on. Roga has an extra wide waistband and a terrific, quick dry lining. These shorts are awesome! Second favorite: Marseille – and they’re on sale!

4. RRS Medium Socks

Any woman that runs distance knows the importance of finding the right socks and for my money, These puppies fit the bill. These are single layer, slightly cushioned socks that don’t add a lot of bulk and wick incredibly well. I trained for the San Francisco Marathon in these socks and never had a single blister or toe fungus. I like the low cut medium cushioning style, but they have a medium cushioning style as well. They’re not all that inexpensive, but I buy them with my RoadRunner Sports VIP discount so it’s not so bad.

5. Moving Comfort Dori Running Bra

Is there anything worse than trying to wriggle into or out of your running bra? And it’s so much worse when it’s wet! Dori has a keyhole back with a three hook and eye closure. I have several in white and one in black, but it also comes in a couple of fun colors ( it has excellent coverage so you can wear it without a top on really hot days). I have a terrible feeling that they are going to discontinue this style because it’s on sale all over the place. What do I love about this bra? No chafing, firm fit around the midriff and you can’t feel the closure at all. It’s construction is kind of like a combination cup and crop style and provides plenty of support for B and C cups. So comfortable, I sometimes wear it all day!

That's my "fave five." What are yours?

Traxee user bmoore I love my Timex Ironman - even though I am running with my new Garmin. I've had 4 of them over the last 20 years and my heart holds a special place for the simple to use format.

Traxee user sbusse I'm a long time loyal owner of the Timex Ironman, so I have to have that. I have to have my bottle of Propel (Kiwi-Strawberry preferrable), and Adidas running socks. As for the tread, big fan of Asics and some Nike Air models.

Traxee user bmoore Oooh - that's not as much as I expected...that's cool. OK - I'll make sure I get a foot pod. I have looked at the downloadable training interface and that looks like it's pretty useful...Now...to find time to go do a little shopping!

Traxee user jstath My husband (it was a Christmas gift) paid about $200. Be sure that it comes with a foot pod; my friend ordered one and hers didn't. My reason for wanting one was to track distance and pace, and the foot pod does that. It will also keep heartrate, but I am not really interested in that. It comes with a USB to automatically log runs into the computer, but I haven't used that yet. Planned to get that going while I am off this summer, but summer is flying, and I still haven't tried it.

Traxee user bmoore Oh cool! I was thinking that I would go and look at the models at a store - and then see if I can find a good price online. What did you pay for yours?

Traxee user jstath The FR60 is good for smaller wrists. I have a small wrist, and it does fine. It also comes in lilac, which I like. I bought it from Amazon.

Traxee user bmoore I got some birthday money and I am thinking about springing for a Garmin. I have wanted one for so long. Is the FR60 good for smaller wrists? Did you buy yours online?

Traxee user jstath I have to have my Asics; I have had several types, and I have no complaints about them. I have a Garmin FR60, and I can't stand to run without it. It has been a real motivator for me. I like to keep track of my pace throughout a run, even during those not-so-great runs. My favorite shorts to run in are Nike running shorts. I can't stand if shorts are too long. In the summer I like the dri-fit tanks with built-in bras. Nike has been my fave, but I also have other brands that work fine. As far as a bra, the built-ins work fine for this little chest! In the winter when I can wear layers, forget a bra! That's one benefit to being very small! Some good deo and I am good to go!

Traxee user bmoore I know! I LOVE the whole Map My Run thing. I am getting an iPhone in September and that is the first app I am downloading.

Traxee user katykathjo Love the Moving Comfort Maia bra. With that bra, there is zero bounce. Also run with my iphone and the imapmyrun app going, love keeping track of distance/pace, etc.
