Started running again in the last few years and enjoying. I have had fibromyalgia for almost 15 years and have tried everything over the years: diets, medications, vitamins, any natural remedies I could find to try to over come the pain, fatigue, and depression that came with this. I was told by a few different doctors that I wouldn't be able to run that it would to strenuous. However I was able to ease my way into running and am so glad that I have.  I am feeling better now than I have in years and it is due to my regular exercise(Jogging/biking) and my diet. I believe you can start running at any age if your smart about it and don't over-do when you start.

Traxee user bmoore Awesome to be able to work with a trainer like that. My PT totally saved my life after injury abut a year and half ago; but the best thing he did for me was push me in a way I never would have pushed myself. You are so right in mixing it up with biking/hiking, etc. Not only is it better for your body, but it also keeps it from getting stale. I really look forward to hearing more about what's going on with you.

Traxee user julesintahoe Yes, including plenty of recovery time. I'm doing the miles (3-4 days a week), cross training on the bike or hiking (1-2 days a week), integrating some strength training 2 days a week, and resting 1 or 2 days a week. When I do the miles, I do some walking and some running during the same workout. Yesterday I did a 6 mile walk/run, and today I went hiking for an hour and a half. I have a trainer who knows me, my body and my goals. He has also done marathons and knows how to best plan my workouts. I've been working with him for 2 years.

Traxee user bmoore Wow! 60 miles! That's cool...plus a marathon. Hope you are including enough rest in between your workouts to avoid injury. How are you working this training - are you integrating distance runs with walk breaks? I am really interested to know.

Traxee user julesintahoe Geez, hit the send button too soon. LOL The 3-Day Walk is in November, the marathon is in September. So, the training is going hand in hand pretty well. I'm a slow runner, so it's all good.

Traxee user julesintahoe Hi bmoore, thanks and I agree 100% with you re: nutrition and the allopathic medical system! CRAZY! Right now I am in training to do the 3-Day Walk for Breast Cancer (20 miles per day for 3 days). So, I am really putting in the miles and am also training to do a marathon at the same time.

Traxee user bmoore That is so awesome! It is so absolutely essential that nutrition play a huge part in the healing process and in health maintenance. It is ABSURD, and even bordering on the criminal in my opinion that the traditional allopathic medical system does not deal with nutritional issues (and "nuritional healing") It seems anti-scientific...as absurd as bleeding people to rid the body of disease...to not consider nutrition to be essential in treatment. You are amazing! Go go go is right! PS - how much do you run?

Traxee user julesintahoe Hi CarolLynn, I have Fibromyalgia, too. It has taken me several years to be able to run again, but here I am doing it! Without the exercise I do (I am also a yoga teacher) I'd be back in bed. Exercise and diet (I am a 80% raw vegan) makes the biggest difference for me. My dr. told me I can do whatever feels good to me (with mindfulness of the next day), and I do! Go Go Go!

Traxee user bmoore VERY cool. I too am an artist - working mostly in dry media...but strangely I've been blocked for the last several years. The last work I completed was over 7 years ago!

Traxee user bmoore Hi CarolLynn! Thanks for being here and welcome. I have actually heard/read about many people whose fibromyalgia has been greatly relieved by exercise. Invariably you always hear about doctors poo pooing the positive effects of running (and even telling people NOT to do it!). Mmm...what are they so afraid of? You have incredible internal strength and perseverance to buck the system and do what you know is intuitively right for your body. PS: LOVE your avatar! Is that your own artwork?
