Yeah, OK - this is why I live in Southern California. Some say "it just ain't natural," but I am telling you it's freekin nice to go out and run in shorts, a light shirt and sunglasses on the second of January. I can't help it. I'm definitely a warm weather girl.
The only thing I don't like about running in January? The frustration I feel seeing all the new runners out on the road struggling through the inevitable New Year's resolution, "Get in Shape." One guy shouted to me from his driveway this morning "Hey - keeping up that New Year's resolution!?" "Yeah, I shouted back - the one I made 20 years ago!"
To everyone just starting, remember, the journey of 1,000 miles begins with the first step. If you want to become a runner, don't go out on your first day and try to run 5 miles. You'll never be back and trust me - you are going to HATE it!
Rather, follow these tips to get started in a sensible way that gives your body time to adjust to the stresses of running and minimizes soreness and fatigue.
