OK, I know it's an embarrasing topic, but we all know what happens when you put sweaty skin, technical fabric and 26.2 miles together...rashes, chafing and (horrors) bleeding.
Yeah, we've all eyed the Body Glide at one time or another, but I recently came across something new from Asics. It'c called Chafe Free Endurance Gel and it's a body lubricant that's actually waterproof for endurance exercise lasting more than one hour. And, unlike Body Glide, it does not contain Zinc Oxide but rather, something called Aceba - which is dry, not greasy or sticky - -plus organic Aloe, Vitamin E and oat flour.
Chafe Free Endurance comes in a 1 1/2 ounce and 1/2 ounce size applicator (so you don't get your hands all gunky when you apply it. When you put it on it forms this high-sheen kind of barrier that is smooth to the touch (reducing friction). I used it under my arms and under the chest band of my running bra the other day with really good results (no redness or chafing) - although I'm still training back into long runs so I was only out for about 45 minutes.
I can highly recommend this product - especially in those areas where you tend to have a lot of rubbing, like your heels, insoles, thighs and under your arms, etc.
Ha, ha, I dunno - something about Body Glide always makes me feel like I am buying marital aids or something. Chafe Free comes in a sunny orange package that looks alot like sunscreen...there's just no reason to be uncomfortable running this summer.
