Hip Flexor Pain

Hip Flexor Pain by ontherun08

This past Saturday was a 10 mile run with my training group for the SF Marathon. Before that the longest run we had was 8 miles. I had concerns about my hips and knees before starting this training and learned some good stretches from my yoga instructor. They worked up until the 10 mile run. At about mile 7 my hip flexor muscles (basically where my leg connects to the rest of my body) were giving me pain and by mile 8 and 9 I was in a lot of pain. Enough to make me think I should stop, but I pushed on to the finish. Our next run is 12 miles and i'm concerned about this pain.

Does anyone else have this problem with their hip flexors and can recommend some super-duper stretches? I also researched that stregthening your lower abdominal muscles is good for the hip flexor mucles. Is this a problem that can be helped by strengthening your entire core area? Can this be a bad running form issue?

Today, two days after the run, my legs and hips are still the slightest bit sore. A lot better but not 100% free of soreness.
