The 5K is America's favorite racing distance and with good reason. At 3.16 miles the distance is do-able for beginning runners and provides terrific training opportunities for more experienced runners planning on running distance races like the marathon.
I love Hal Higdon training programs because they're simple and easy to adjust to your particular schedule. In the case of the 5K plan, the intermediate program includes tempo runs that will help improve your speed and conditioning but won't take up every free moment of your week.
