Calf Pain While Training

Saturday's group run for the AIDS Marathon was GREAT!  we ran 8 miles and it totally flew by at the comfortable "chat with your fellow runners" pace.  Now I really understand the attraction of training with a partner!

Anyway, I am noticing that as our mileage increases, I am getting some really severe calf soreness.  It doesn't feel like an injury...just a really intense soreness that takes about a day to go away.  I am thinking that it may be a pre-cursor to bigger problems.

The marathon Coach suggested a couple of stretches for me, but they don't seem to be hitting the spot.

Does anyone have any advice here?  The soreness is kind of accompanied by slight knee pain and a pain in the arch of my foot.  Is it my shoes?

Traxee user irungirl I had a similar problem. Have a pro at your favorite running shoe store check your arches and see if your shoes are right for you. Good luck!
