My Trax Log Shoe Meter tells me that it's time for a new pair of shoes. I was going to try to get 400 miles out of my current Asics, (times are a bit tough right now) but I don't think I'm going to be able to get away with it. I'm starting to get that tell-tale calf ache after a long run and I can fairly easily bend the soles of my shoes backward. That's a sure-fire sign that it's time.
I have a little "shoe-fund" that I put money into every week which keeps the pocketbook sting down a bit. Also, I have to admit I am a real sucker for a tricked up, high dollar running shoe with an amazing fit.
After doing a bit of research and a spin-through look-see around my local running store, I think I am going to go for this season's Asics Gel Kayano 15. This shoe won the Runner's World Editor's Choice Award and the extra cushioning in the rear and mid-foot makes for an amazing ride. Nike almost had me this time because I've been lusting after a Nike+ system, but the Asics fit and performance is just too much to walk away from. I'll stick to my lone iPod for now. I may even have to go for the "Lightning Red" version just to celebrate my comeback! Oooh - it's going to be a great summer!
