Jelly Belly Sports Beans

Jelly Belly Sports Beans by bmoore

There they were...sitting right next to the cash register at my local Road Runner Sports.

It was the word "caffeine" that beckoned me.  Sleep deprived and incapable of downing yet another grande non-fat latte, the whole thing seemed innocuous enough. Instead of coffee, I would spend my late night work night munching on these caffeine "sport beans"...maybe just a few and then save the rest in my gym bag just for that extra needed lift before my end of day workout.

OK, so here's what happened.  I don't each much processed sugar, And these babies claim 50 mg of caffeine "per serving".  So I start muching around 11:00 PM...low and behold at 2:30 AM I've mindlessly downed the whole bag of beans, I'm done working and I can't get to sleep!

Here's what the Jelly Belly Corporation has to say about these "beans":

When your workout needs a little more kick, there’s Extreme Sport Beans. Each serving contains 50 mg of caffeine, about the same amount in a half a cup of brewed coffee, along with Sport Beans’ clinically proven formula of carbohydrates, vitamins and electrolytes. And the delicious Watermelon flavor will keep you refreshed throughout your exercise.

I downed the whole bag 'o beans, so I must have had the equivalent of 3-4 cups of coffee!

My advice?  Bag the beans and make sure the next beans you eat come from the produce section at Whole Foods!

Traxee user bmoore What do you recommend for distance running? The marathon training people all recommend the gue, but they say you need to get your body used to it before you can run on it. Are the sport beans good on longer distances?

Traxee user RunningHart I like the non-caffinated sports beans and shot blocks (specifically the cran-razz!).

Traxee user ontherun08 i haven't tried the orange jelly belly sports beans i bought a two weeks ago. i purchased a few different kinds of running supplements to figure out which one is the best for me. so far i've only tried the luna sport moons and they were ok. i've got some gu, shot blocks, jelly beans and some other kind of gel-like nutrients to try out. which is your favorite and most convenient to carry on long runs?
