A Hero in Women's Running : Meghan Arbogast

A Hero in Women's Running : Meghan Arbogast by bmoore

It was just a few weeks ago that we were all sitting around talking about marathons and ultras and how crazy you'd have to be to try a 100K.

Given the fact that I am down and out with this injury and missing running so much I could puke, I started searching the Internet for solace, and there I definitely found it.  It's Meghan's Blog; Meghan Arbogast's  blow by blow accounts of a 47 year old woman who is, by any standards, and extraordinary athlete and an inspiration to us all.

I was particularly enthralled by her split by split account of her running of the Twin-Cities marathon.  I still can't figure out how she is able to give such a detailed and enthralling account of her experiences while running,  but I guess she's been doing it a really long time.

Anyway, as if the Twin Cities thing wasn't great enough, Meghan also gives her account of participating in the Olympic Marathon trials (saying hello to Joan Benoit Samuelson), and best of all, her account of running Italy with team USA.

You really should check out Meghan's blog.

I am completely convinced that there are people on the planet that are made to run...natural runners like my friend Heather whose lung capacity far exceeds anyone's I know and whose body seems to deliver oxygenated blood to her muscles like a steam train.  Folks, I am not one of them.

It's funny, but I really don't feel bested by all of this, I feel inspired to heal and get back to training as soon as possible.  OK, I may never be able to run a 6 minute mile, but the joy I feel going down the road is the shared experience we all have - I'll be back soon!
