Fast and Flat? NOT!

Fast and Flat? NOT! by bmoore

So I just got back from our weekend trip to the Sacramento area and although I am thoroughly exhausted, I gotta say, it was a really good time and I was sooo glad to get out of LA for a couple of days. I was however, somewhat dismayed to find that far from being flat and open, our friend's new house is actually in very hilly country just southeast of Sacramento.  It's absolutely beautiful, but my dreams of a fast, flat course for the weekend were definitely dashed.

I needed to run 8 miles on Saturday morning and so I was left with no choice but to run a fairly challenging out and back through a canyon pass.  The road was extraordinarily beautiful and the air was so fresh and clean and smelled so good.  I think my lungs were wondering what to do with all the air!  The good thing about this course was that although it was primarily uphill 4 miles going out, coming back was mostly downhill and fairly fast.  At least , I thought it was good until about 3 hours after my run when my knee started really yelping.

Normally, I have a bit of discomfort for maybe an hour or two right after a hard run - this time is different.  I am still having trouble with motility and it is about 4:00 PM on Sunday.  I have taken some Advil and it really isn't helping, so now I am going to go to ICE and see what happens.  Yikes!  Thankfully, I have a Monday rest day scheduled so between the rest and the ice I am hoping the pain will dissipate I will be able to train this week.

I am hoping for the best.  I'm going to do my IT Band exercises too.

Traxee user Betty Ouch. that is similar to how I felt after the race, in fact, I thought the Beverly Hills terrain was gnarly where 1ft sidewalks just dropped off and you had to jump back on, particularly when the course changed from neighborhood to trail. I know it was minimal, but by loop 2 my knee was screaming at me! Sounds like it was a beautiful get away tho!

Traxee user turning40 I have inflamation problems with my hip and recently I got onto 1000mg emu oil capsules and I have been pain free for the first time in MONTHS!! Even after hard sessions still no pain so perhaps worth looking into. I do anything to avoid anti-inflamatories but even had to resort to them for the pain and it kept coming back so these are a real find for me. The brand I use is called Blue Gum an Aussie brand but you might have something similar over there?
