Great bike / run session

Kim and I met at the reservoir today so we could do a bike/run brick on the wall (dam wall).

It was a gorgeous day and all was going to plan; had the front wheel on my bike and was trying to put the back wheel on when I realised I had left the pin that keeps the wheel on at home. I absolutely hate doing anything twice so driving back home to retrieve said pin annoyed me no end.

Back to the wall, pin in hand and away we go.

We rode 6.2km then quickly chained the bikes to the railing and started running. My last brick was over 4 months ago and my legs were already sore and tired from taekwondo so it was hard going but I still managed 2km in a little over 10 minutes (good for me).

Kim is a bit slower than me so I jogged back to meet her and jog back across the wall with her (another 1.2km or so).

Once we got back to the bikes I said "Let's do it again"!!! So we got back on the bikes and did another (slower) 6.2km on the bikes. Kim decided to head home after that but I did another bike/run with a 2km run to finish off.  The second one felt better but I was much slower - probably around 12min this time.

Great session, the second brick was just for a bit of fun and to stay out in the beautiful sunshine. Legs are tired now but I only have a swim and upper body tomorrow so I'll be right for that by then.

Traxee user turning40 My bike is a hybrid, I have a bit of a dodgy back so the low handlebars don't suit me too well. The frame is nice and light and will suffice for this season and probably next after that I'll look at something I bit lighter again.

Traxee user Betty Thanks Turning40! BMoore, you could pick up a basic road bike, a townie, or a cruiser. Depends on what you are looking for on your bike. I am not a racer either, so I find the aforementioned bikes most suitable for staying active and green, but these are most definitely for easy distance, errands, and fun. If you like the style of a cruiser, find a lighter weight one and either ride hills in a single speed or grab one with gears. Either way, riding a bike, any bike...is a great idea! I am a fan of Raleigh. Schwinn, Electra, and Phat are other popular (for style and function) brands. happy bicycle hunting!

Traxee user bmoore Yesterday I was leaving the house and I saw a woman on a bicycle who looked like she was really pumping it and having a great time! I had a bicycle that I had to give up when we moved back to California, but now I am thinking about getting another one. Do you guys have any recommendations? I don't really see myself on one of those fancy "racers." Does anyone have any recommendations? I'll probably be mostly riding on the streets around my house.

Traxee user turning40 A brick is where you get off the bike and head straight into a run without any break - a la triathlon style.
