Adding a little step in your routine and combining a weekend workout with adventure, well, you just can’t go wrong. This past Saturday I did just that with another Traxee member. Together we planned out a local trip that would last us approximately 4 to 5 hours encompassing running, hiking, walking, yoga and a healthy brunch. Below is an account of our cross-training adventure, one that you could follow or use as inspiration to do something similar in your neck of the country. Of course, you know I’ll want to hear about it!
First I googled a nearby trail within proximity to a metro area. In this case, I chose Runyon Canyon which provided a smooth, yet steep flat trail as well as a steep stair-step option; its distance approximately 2ish miles roundtrip. From reviews of the trail, I found out there was a free yoga class every morning from 10:30-11:30 held at the base. By this point I’m thinking, lets just make a day of it, or a half-day! The next logical addition was food, so I googled nearby restaurants and found one offering an all Vegan menu (with respect for my workout partner).
This is how it al turned out:
Saturday
9:45am – Depart by car to Runyon Canyon
10:15am - had run down the smooth trail, watched as people set up their
yoga mats, but had to find a bathroom, and even though Runyon
is considered a park, the aforementioned were non-existent. So,
we ran to Sunset Blvd. and found a coffee shop! Phew, (good
thing
we had our Traxee Ts on because if you don’t buy something
in Hollywood, you can forget using a retailers restroom). The
counter girl was like, no worries, YOU ARE WOMEN IN
TRAINING…its all yours! Haha.
10:25am – Heading back up the stair-step trail (red) as we watch people roll
out their yoga mats.
11:00am – Get water from the car, run back down the smooth trail (green)
11:15am – Get in on the last 15 minutes of Yoga…in the wet grass!!
11:30am – Walk to California Vegan…YUM!!
12:45pm – Head back toward and up green trail to the car
1:15pm – Back at the car for a much-needed water break and stretch.
2:00pm – snug at home ;)
As you can see, we didn’t make it in time for the full Yoga experience, but really, all in all, it was perfect and new. I would definitely do it again! When all was said and done, we completed over 6 miles of training...time flys when you add an adventure. Want to go?
