Whoo Hoo! 13.1 DONE!

Whoo Hoo! 13.1 DONE! by bmoore

What a great race this morning!  I gotta hand it to the Nike Town in Beverly Hills for putting on a fun, friendly Nike+ Women's Half Marathon event.

Women started assembling at the store around 7:15 in the cool October morning - slightly foggy, about 57 degrees. Sign-in was orderly and really friendly.  By the time everyone got underway at exactly 8:00 AM, spirit were high.

All the nervousness just melted away as I took off at my usual held-back pace and the rest of the pack pulled away from me within minutes.  There I was, alone with the road for 13 miles.  And what a road it was, winding through some of the most beautiful real estate  in Beverly Hills.  It being early on Sunday morning there was very little traffic and it was possible to run down the middle of the broad Oak-lined streets without interruption.  There were lots of neighborhood runners too, simply out for their Sunday AM workout!

Around mile 5 I began catching up with the runners who had gone out too fast from the start and now found their pace slowing; passing them I once again had the run to myself.  After only 5 weeks of focused distance training and no speed work at all, I ended up putting in a decent pace - the best I'd had in distance above 6 miles in months - exactly 10"/mi - and I did it without any trouble.  Mr. Higdon, I am a believer!

Then, afterwards, Nike Town hosted an absolute catered FEAST with hot, delicious food and yes - a warm chocolate-filled croissant - the best reward!

Yay!  The evil anti-racing spell is broken after 8 years and now I am ready to commit to the full marathon.  My running buddies and I have pledged to do LA in February and we're all ready to start 18 weeks of training.  So awesome!

It feels so great to meet this goal  - I'm ready for more!

Traxee user bmoore Oh,Paris! I love that city - though it has been many years now since I have been there. We were just talking about running in some of the great races in Europe yesterday after the half. It sounds so awesome! I will definitely be doing strength training as I go through the next 18 weeks - I am really noticing soreness in my thighs this morning (which kinda surprises me since I run so many hills regularly) but it definitely shows me that I need to do more. Taekwondo sounds like a great alternative to (boring) gym workouts and I am really in love with the mental training aspect as well. To answer your question about Traxee, no, there is no current way to comment inside someone's profile or send private messages through Traxee. We are collecting a lot of input from members right now about how the site needs to be enhanced so I am going to talk to our developers about doing this. We are getting some great feedback from everyone so your suggestion is appreciated. We definitely set out to make this a member-directed project!

Traxee user turning40 Hi Beth, Congrats on your Half, it sounds like a wonderful event. It really sounds like we had the same experience with our most recent Halfs. I had signed up for Paris and was feeling a bit anxious as my running wasn't flowing for me in recent months but the half last Sunday really turned things around and now I look forward to my marathon training with excited anticipation. Glad to see it has you feeling ready to go the next step too. Taekwondo is good for concentration and focus definitely and all the kicking and pushups will increase your strength without a doubt. Just be sure to find the instructor that suits you best. I do WTF style taekwondo which is the Olympic style and is much more energetic than some of the older traditional ITF styles so be sure to look for that too. Can we just comment on via one anothers profiles or does it all need to do be done via the posts? I can't seem to see a way to message anyone other than via the posts. If you can help me out there I'd appreciate it :)
