The weather was beautiful this morning as I embarked on a real milestone in my running career - training for my first marathon...the San Francisco Marathon! Though I have been running for many years, I have never run with a club or a long-term partner. My runs have always been my solo time. So it was quite a different experience for me to be running, not only with a pack of runners, but with a newly found friend in my pace group who just did LA last weekend! Lo and behold...people talk while they run (no iPods allowed).
Well the run went pretty well (6.0 this morning). We were told to stay within our pace group; but my buddy and I passed the group in front of us as well crossed the finish line. Bot did the trainer give us grief! "Stay with your group," he barked at us as we finished! "Not fair" we protested! You told us to come in at 1:02 and that's what we did! He was really annoyed.
Anyway this did not mar our experience. It felt great and I can't believe I am really going to do this. I have to raise $3,000 in the next 8 weeks in order to participate in the race. The money goes to benefit AIDS Project LA, so it's a really good cause.
What a great way to spend a Saturday morning!
