I woke up this morning about 7:00 AM and heard the loud rustling of trees in the backyard. Damn! 10 miles scheduled this morning - my longest run as I scale down to a taper next week before the race - and it's TOTALLY windy outside.
I love running in the snow, the rain, the heat, the fog...but I HATE running in the wind. Just the thought of it puts me in a bad mood, but I had no choice this morning. Gotta run it.
I prepped with stretching, eating my organic banana and almond concoction and decided to tote my own water this time. (Last week's 9 miles had me dehydrated and headachy for hours afterwards. But despite all the prep, I was still in kind of a foul mood about the wind as I stepped outside.
Well, I have to admit it was the most awesome run I have had in a long time. The ITB gave me NO trouble and I didn't feel it at all for the first seven miles - then just a little ache going downhill. My time wasn't great - just over a 10 minute mile average, but I was faster on the back, which is a good thing. I seem to be getting better at pacing myself for the long runs, saving it up for the back stretch.
But here's the best part. The 10 mile route I plotted led straight to my favorite breakfast place. I talked my husband into meeting me there with some dry clothes for me to change into and right after my run, we stepped inside for HOT coffee and buttermilk pancakes. YUM YUM! The absolute BEST!
Some people like sitting in bed with the New York Times or sleeping in on Sunday. Gimme 10 flat miles and a buttermilk pancake reward anytime! The perfect Sunday!
