Daily Marathon Training Log – Day 12

Notice the jump? The one day I had decided to take as rest turned into more like 2.5 days off! I can’t tell you how much I needed the pause in training. If you recall, on Day8 I was suffering sugar, sleep, and plain freakin exhaustion. I didn’t count a single calorie all weekend and the only bit of exercise I attempted apart from errands and cleaning was running the beach with my daughter on Sunday.

On our way up the coast she says “Mom, look how fast I can run!” “Yes,” I said, but on the way back you may want to pace yourself with me so that you can run longer.” She looked at me with the thoughtful eyes of a seven year old, so sweet and innocent…sponge-like. So it was, post octopus petting and starfish gazing…together we ran down the coast, keeping an even steady pace, us alongside one another. “Would you like to start running with me?” “If I can have an iPod like you!”

If she shows active continued interest there just may be one in store for her this holiday season.

Today’s run was perfect and when Lance Armstrong came over the Nike+ waves to congratulate me on my fastest time I knew all was right in the world ☺. I ran straight thru with the ease of downing a gallon of coffee ice cream and here I thought I was going really slow!!

Traxee user KDface It is really great to take days off. Remember your post on over-training? I think that even happens at the level you are running, you can't expect to run run run and not burn out. Even a few extra days are worth it especially when you can come back and do your fastest time yet! Good work :)

Traxee user Sarah I'm going out on a limb here and saying...maybe you don't have enough time to eat or you are a bird eater? Where was your dinner woman?! Love the beach story tho...my daughter and I run, when she isn't doing everything else! Start those girls young. Give them solid self-esteem!
