Daily Marathon Training – Day8

If I am learning anything, it is what it takes to be an optimal human. For instance, I figured out refined sugar is not cool. I am better off having an Americano as opposed to a Triple Soy White Chocolate Latte and 75% cacao chocolate instead of a bag of M&Ms. I can directly connect sugar to my poor performance in my last two runs

In addition to sugar, lack of sleep is a killer. I thought I could maintain on minimal hours of sleep as it was working the first few days, but my endurance level is just not the same without a good nights rest. And WATER. I had no idea how dehydrated I was until this last week. I went from dark yellow to clear, if you know what I mean. Training is the greatest self awareness tool, aside from fasting, in fact even more so.

I pulled out 6 miles today, but the last two were a mixture of fast walking and sprints. SUGAR kills! OH, I almost forgot, so does wine…sometimes. A night free of children and boyfriend I thought it would be nice to curl up on the sofa with a glass of wine and the greatest biography ever, CHANEL. I guess because there was no one begging for food, I forgot to eat first. Needless to say, 3 sips of wine and I was barfing up the Tear ‘n Share bag of M&Ms. Post recovery I ordered the sludgiest meal possible, a vat of creamy Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo, but upon eating that I was dream deep in the living room. No great book or wine for me that night. Lesson learned.

Traxee user bmoore It's so true. I can TOTALLY feel the sugar if I stray in my run the next day. People who don't run really don't get this. It's like your muscles want to latch to the ground and stay there. The lack of sleep thing is so right on also. It is sooo important to give your body the right amount of recuperation. My schedule calls for runs totally 15 miles in three days; long-short-long and let me tell you,by the end of day three I am so ready for rest. Makes you even more amazed by the elite athletes, doesn't it?
