Daily Marathon Training Log - Day2

Once again, a few hits on the snooze then up at 5:15am; 240 crunches coupled with basic stretching (less the jump rope this morning), and out the door by 5:30. Completed just over 3 miles in the same time as yesterday. This evening I will have to finish up the other 1.5 or more.

Having gotten the same optimal amount of sleep last night why is it that I feel so groggy this morning? While I was not tormented with what ifs as I brought up the sun, I was equally euphoric-less. Safe to say it was one of those numb runs, the kind where nothing hurts, boggles or detours you. Perhaps it was due, at least in part, to reading a wretched e-mail from my children’s father just before heading out the door. It didn’t make me angry, just ever more so determined to prove to myself that I can stand strong against all odds.

Running empowers me. I think if you can run for miles on end you can do anything. There is a definite self-realization and can-do attitude that accompanies a commitment to running. I thought, while passing the donut shop this morning “I can run away from you, I can.” Again I thought this as the streets began to fill with people…the ones heading for the metro and the ones headed nowhere.

Of course, I am metaphorically speaking here…running away from dangerous situations whether it be the boogy man on the street, an unhealthy lifestyle, or an abusive relationship (that spans from couples to relationships within families) is away to get to point B. I think so many of us spend eons driving circles around point A never getting anywhere.

That is what running does for me…gets me from point A to point B through a very positive and contemplative process. As your fitness level progresses, and your life goals morph into what once seemed impossible, it becomes more and more difficult for you to surround yourself in unhealthy situations and that my friends is a beautiful thing.

Post Script.: For the sake of kicking my snack habit and tracking EVERYTHING, I will be adding a food log to these daily posts. Oh Yeah.

Day 2 – 3.5 miles – 25 min.

Foods (so far):

1 cup Yogi Detox tea
2 cups black office coffee
1 chocolate chip Cliff bar
1 giant jalapeno cheese bagel smeared in various cream cheeses

2 beers

1/2 bag of Tear'n Share M&Ms
