I hoped someone out there was working on naming that gut-twisting feeling I get when attempting to embrace nature by taking a mini camping vay-cay. Only to be unceasingly torchered by this inner city-girl voice “I wonder if Dolly got my text?” “Why can’t I get a signal out here!” It begins to set in, “I feel so lost on this trail, if only I could GPS a way out!” Ok, you are right, that’s not me, but it might be you!
Solutions Research Group interviewed approximately 5,000 Americans aged 12 and older “on all aspects of their use and attitudes towards communications and entertainment technologies.” Which tells us…what exactly? Leads me to question the validity of their findings, but that is not why we are here today. The whole idea that this Disconnect Anxiety exists is just too freakin hilarious to not bag on. Losing that access creates disconnect anxiety.”
You really must read the full article to appreciate their thorough investigation on the subject; complete with colourful tables and modern clip art! One of my favourite pictorials displays words people use to describe their experience when disconnected: “half a voice” “loss of freedom” “empty.” If you find yourself overwhelmingly connected to one or more of these symptoms…you should probably go lock yourself in a closet and cry, as the Solutions Research Group provided no uhh…solution. However, if you are lucky, while in bed watching tv, working on your computer, listening to your ipod, texting, and playing your psp, there may appear (on any one of these devices) a commercial advertising a little blue pill for said disorder. You might bet on that.
I thought with all of the buzz around the new iPhone and all the crazy stuff that is taking up precious room in my not so giant handbag, you might like this little slice.
How important is your cell phone, iPod as a woman runner?
