To make it to the Olympics for women runners is a great feat in and of itself. To make it and skirt the edges of victory, to be the cause of your own defeat is a cruel truth of the human condition: We just aren’t perfect…all of the time, try as we might.
August 19th was, for Lolo Jones, a day of realizing just this when her foot hit the second to last hurdle while holding the lead in the women’s 100 meter hurdles. This human glitch kicked her gait and left her crumpled in agony just past the finish line, not even catching bronze.
Lolo Jones comes form a childhood where strife fed this drive to succeed and while she may not feel the track beneath her feet today, she has accomplished what some people cannot even wrap their minds around.
Congratulations Lolo on your desire and will to not only survive, but run free.
Best wishes. See you on the road.
