A lot of you have been asking about green running shoes. Evidently Brooks has been experimenting with a bio-degradable midsole for a couple of years now. Marketed under the name "BioMoGo" (MoGo is the standard name for Brooks' midsole technology),the company has just created their Trance 8 shoe for women with this midsole.
Trance 8 ($140) is a popular stability shoe great for overpronators and Brooks makes a great shoe in general, so this may be something to seriously check out. Women runners' support of companies producing green running products is really important - to help encourage this kind of research and development, and to help bring down the cost of alternative products.
There's another great aspect to Brooks' effort in this area, which we all should applaud and support and that is that the company decided not to patent this technology, but rather to develop it "open source" - making it available to other manufacturers who want to further develop and enhance the technology. Wow!
I am due for a new pair of shoes in a couple of months and I am definitely going to check out these shoes.
Spread the word!
