Overtraining Syndrome

Overtraining Syndrome by spin-freak

I have been running since the end of May '08, and I have lost 21 pounds to date.  I have since been stuck at the same weight for a month now.  I run every morning at the same time, I teach a body sculpt, bootcamp and pilates class two times per week.  I try to eat as clean as possible, but with a 7 year old son and husband that is some times difficult.  What am I doing wrong?  What do I need to change?

Traxee user Sarah I'm with the girls on this one. I can say that as I get older, I tend to look at my over all health and happiness with how I feel and look in the mirror, with less emphasis on the numbers...weight, that is.

Traxee user Karen tough one. It does seem like its always about pushing the envelope, and in the case of weight, I would have to agree with the other girls...CARDIO. Run girl.

Traxee user Betty I think I posted an article here about the body's natural weight. As BMoore states, getting past a point where the body is at its, probably, natural weight or state of homeostasis is very difficult. Remember that as you are losing weight, if exercising...or over-training, as you put it, appetite tends to increase...you have to feed your muscles!! BMoore's tips of really increasing cardio over time is your best bet. Also, remember weight is a number, not what you are. Find the place where you feel good and work to maintain this feeling of optimal health. And for goodness sakes, have fun! I have two spawn (haha) and as a single mom...well, lets just say its not all about me, right?! Don't forget to live today and be impressed with even the smallest of accomplishments.

Traxee user bmoore Hey, congratulations on your weight loss first of all. wow! 21 pounds! A couple of years ago I lost about 18 and I found that I got stuck after 11 pounds for about 6 months. Evidently this is pretty common. The only thing that worked for me was increasing mileage and disciplining myself to not eat anything after about 7:00 PM (VERY hard). Also, I really like the "menu" I found several years ago in Runners World. Here's the link: http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-242-304--7771-1-1X3-3,00.html. Good Luck!
