Raised here in southern California, Dara Torresis the first swimmer to compete in five Olympics winning a total of ten Olympic medals, five of which were awarded in the 2000 Olympics. Torres set her first American record at the young age of 15 of which she has since broken twice at age 40.
August of last year Torres won gold in the 100 meter freestyle at the U.S. Nationals just 15 months after giving birth to her first child. This year at the 2008 Olympics Beijing on August 10th Torres became the oldest female Olympic medallist by taking silver as the anchor position of the US 4x100 meters women’s relay!
Tomorrow, August 15th Torres wil swim in the qualifying heat 10 at Beijing in the women’s 50 m freestyle.
