You’ve been hearing it since grade school – “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” But for most of us, mornings are crazy…up at 5:00 AM – run, shower, make the kids’ lunches, commute to work – who has time to eat breakfast?
The great news is that eating a good-for-you breakfast can be fast and doesn’t have to be complicated…the cereal you loved as a kid is still a great choice in the morning (and in the evening) with a few minor considerations:
· Choose a cereal with fewer than 200 calories and 5 grams of fat per serving (approx ¾ cup)
· Avoid cereals with coconut or palm oil
· Go for cereals that are “100% whole grain”
· Look for more than 5 grams of fiber per serving
· Select cereals with less than 16 grams of added sugar
TIP: Boost the nutritional value of your cereal by using yogurt instead of milk, and adding fresh or dried fruit to your cereal.
