SF Half Marathon

SF Half Marathon by ontherun08

This past weekend I ran my first half marathon. I started my training in February intending to do the full but my IT Band told me otherwise. I hadn't really trained for about 3 months due to the injury but I had raised over $3000 for AIDS Project LA through the National AIDS Marathon Training Program, met some great people and found out just how generous my friends and family are especially in these hard economic times. I had to try.

It was probably the hardest physical thing I've ever done. I started getting some pain in my IT Band at about mile 3 and ended up walking after mile 6 or 7. It was painful and cold, especially over the Golden Gate Bridge. But I finished in 3 hours and 45 mins, got my medal and am happy that I finished it. Will I ever do that again? Part of me would like to try to do a full marathon but only if I can get my body to fully cooperate.

You can see my full finish details here: http://www.runraceresults.com/Individual.asp?EV=rclf2008&Bib=9776

Now it's time for rest and recuperation. If you are thinking of doing a half or full marathon, do it. My experience was great.

Traxee user kcampbell I am beginning my half training this week, and I am thrilled to hear that yours went well. Mostly because you were able to walk/run and still be successfull. I am not sure that I will be able to run the entire race (nervous and I haven't even started training!). But I'm trying to get over that fear and embrace the fact that run or walk, I'm still out there getting it done!

Traxee user bmoore Awesome OTR! What was it like going over the bridge? One of my best memories is going over the bridge in the Cooper River Run. The entire bridge shook from the movement of the thousands of runners going across and the view of Charleston and Savannah were amazing!
