I know we have been talking about cellulite, eating right for running, and cross-training, so I had to throw this at you…go grab a Hula Hoop!! Strengthening our core, as runners, and as women in general, is beneficial, but can be a tricky area for us. Rest assure that now, toning the tummy, can be easy and fun for you.
The difference in fitness hoops and those we used as children is found in weight. If you are picking up a hoop for the first time in years, grab one from a Target like store, you can graduate to ‘professional’ hoops if its something you end up digging. For those of you that remember how much you love hooping and are ready to take the dive, check out this site for an accupressure hoop..or Hoop Girl for many choices in professional hoops.
There are actually quite a few ways to exercise with a Hula Hoop that go beyond the midsection, not to mention adding the coolest party starter to your next gathering! And guess what…there is an entire hooping community definitely worth checking out.
Run – Hoop – Run!
P.S. You can find the follow-up vids for the one posted here, on You Tube!
Hey you guys - you should definitely go to the video on the link on Betty's post. Really interesting. There is a vid of this guy in Carboro North Carolina who is basically teaching "ecstatic hooping." The group definitely reminds me of shamanic dance (check out this link:http://www.firetribehawaii.org/articles/ecstaticdance.shtml) to learn more...pretty cool.
I so loved my hoop when I was a kid. OK - does anyone remember the "Shoop Shoop" Hula Hoop? I can still hear the jingle in my head. I am so sick of sit ups and such, hooping seems like a great way to get a good solid core workout...and what about belly dancing?
Not that far out of school, so I have actually been hula hooping and I love it!! Yes, its awesome for the abs and you can do all kinds of stuff with your arms and legs...oh, I have a girlfriend that is really good...she dances through them, even does multiples and that is her only exercise....and her body is nicely toned! I could never give up running for it, but definitely something I already do and would recommend to you guys!
Ok, ha...never crossed my mind. My daughter has a couple, guess I know what I'm doing tonight! Very cool Hoop sites too, no idea there was an entire hoop craze going on...can't wait to get a 'professional' one...thanks
RAD RAD RAD!! I have an old hula hoop, but I checked out your links and they have some pretty groovy ones...I think I just may have to get one...ooh, can't wait to get home and get back into hooping...I jump around on a little trampoline before I run, now I can add hooping...I am so 12 again...all the wonderful parts! Thanks.
