Should You Run Through Your 'Illness' ?

Should You Run Through Your 'Illness' ? by Karen

Hi Guys!  Just came out of a long chest cold of during which I was wondering if it was a good idea to continue my running….I think this is decent advice.

“The general rule of runners is that if the illness is above your throat, you can run. But if it is in your chest, you should not run.”

Anyone have additional advice on this subject?

Traxee user Karen It is always hard for me to get motivated when I am feeling really crappy, if and when I can get my butt out the door...I always feel a little bit better...that is until I crash for hours as soon as I get in he door!

Traxee user Betty I have run through chest cold/congestion, howevr I purposefully tone down the miles. I think while it is great for the immune system to keep up some exercise, there is a good chance that wearing out your body can have an opposite effect. Definitely a good idea to go out and get fresh air! Good question.

Traxee user bmoore The rule I've always heard is that you can do your run if you don't have a fever. I have actually run through chest colds before and did fine. Try it and see how you feel!
