Coyote Returns!

Coyote Returns! by bmoore

Some of you may remember my encounter while on an early morning run last winter with a lone, male coyote.  I was coming back over the same hill this morning and there he was again- this time in broad summer daylight - with a rabbit in his mouth!   He was just trotting down the middle of the street, pretty as you please!

Once again, he looked up, gave me a glance and headed for the hills.  Incredible!  I mean, I live in LA people!  There's cars and folks all over the place!

For some reason, it made me happy to know that he had made it through the winter and was still residing in my neighborhood.  (Course I don't have any small children or dogs, either).  Oh and BTW, in case you're wondering, Coyotes can run up to 43 miles per hour!  That's a sub 4:00!

Sure hope he doesn't chase me again!

Traxee user Sarah I live in the hills and encounter 'wild' animals all the time... Runyun Canyon to Hollywood to Griffith Park Loop (18 miles) Amalfi (6miles) Bundy (7miles) Or, of course you can crash neighborhoods in outlying areas!! Have fun, it really reminds you that there exists ecosystems outside of our daily routine.

Traxee user Karen That is so rad! I really haven't veered from the track...can you reccomend some great places to run in the 'wild' here in LA?

Traxee user Betty Oh, but he could be a great running partner! One of my goals is to do a sled dog run somewhere in the Northern hemisphere...not ones with long distance whipping, but like in the movies...where when we get trapped...some of the dogs run for help while the others protect me from the harsh winds. Well, maybe tragedy doesn't have to occur! I do think 'wild' dogs are majestic. Cool sighting B!
