Although I do not have children, my life is constantly presenting me with time challenges that always seem to interfere with my workout time.
So, when I recently found the Workout Mommy blog I was intrigued. Although nothing can possibly compare with raising small children in terms of time and effort requirements, I realize after reading some of the posts in this blog that all women (regardless of child-rearing status) really do have more in common than we think.
Lisa, the driving force behind Workout Mommy describes her situation this way:
"My name is Lisa and in my life before kids, I was a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, marathon runner, and overall fitness junkie. I woke up early to workout and I stayed up late to workout. I didn’t think much would change when I had children, so clearly I had absolutely NO IDEA what being a mommy was like!
Now, I struggle with finding the time each day and making myself stay fit. It’s a struggle, I won’t lie to you. But it's one that is worth it. After all, a fit mommy is a happy mommy!"
Sound familiar?
Whether we're working too many hours, or saying "yes" to one too many play dates, the theme is really the same.
It's important for each and every one of us to take care of ourselves and get what we need to be strong, healthy, happy human beings..for our kids, and for ourselves.
