With only 12 weeks or so until the 2012 LA Marathon my hopes of running it are dashed once again this year. Coming back from this injury there’s just no way I am up for pushing the mileage and trying to do the distance.
Feeling a bit low (but determined to put this marathon on my goal list for 2013), my running friend Lisa Daggett and I started talking. Turns out that her organization, Connections for Children, (CFC) is one of the charitable organizations raising money with the LA Marathon this year…
About Connections for Children
The Connections for Children mission is to help all children reach their full potential by supporting families' access to high quality child care and education.
Each year CFC helps over 6,000 families select the quality childcare placements that best suit their individual needs. They offer free referrals, financial assistance, and parent education programs. The Connections for Children staff of child care specialists is committed to supporting children and families through information, resources, and referrals in all aspects of child and family development.
Connections for Children offers a wide range of programs for childcare providers, including professional development workshops, grants to improve facilities, and onsite technical assistance consultations. Their Mobile Toy Loan van makes stops at Family Child Care Homes throughout the area, delivering a variety of toys and books on a rotating basis.
Connections For Children is also an advocate for quality childcare and early education. They work closely with parents, childcare providers, business and community leaders to promote quality services for children and their families. CFC also serves as a clearinghouse for information on childcare services, parenting, and child development and safety.
How You Can Help
I figured that if I can’t do the full marathon (or even the half), that I would sign up for the 5K, which is being held on Saturday, March 17th (The full marathon is the 18th) up at Dodger Stadium.
I’m going to try to score a PB for the short distance as well as raise much-needed funds to support childcare and children’s welfare here in Southern California. Connections for Children is facing severe cuts due to our California budget crisis and could REALLY use some help right now.
So here’s where you come in. I don’t normally do this, but I’m asking for your help by:
- Making a contribution to the Connections for Children fundraising effort at their crowdrise.com page.
- Thinking about joining me at the 5K event that Saturday. There’s still time to sign up!
If you decide to come on out to the 5K event – look for me. My bib will say “Traxee.” I’d love to meet some of you in person!
Remember, you don’t have to be running to support a charitable organization. Please, won’t you click and give what you can right now? You guys are the best!
PS – If you sign up for the 5K and make a donation to Connections for Children, let me know via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. I’ll meet you at the race and you’ll get a pair of running shorts on Traxee! Woot!
