I haven't posted on Traxee for such a long time! The last several months have been a whirlwind of activity, some good, and some not so good. Regardless, running has remained a constant in my life, and the one thing I can depend on in good times and bad. I run when I am excited about an upcoming event, when I am sad about the illness or death of a family member or friend, or stressed out by life's demands. It has been almost three years since my husband and I began running; I have never stuck with exercise that long!
This past February I was not able to run for six weeks. I had a hysterectomy on February 1, and my activity was limited while my body healed. As I recouperated, I wrote, which is no surprise to those of you who know me. A couple of weeks after surgery, I began to consider running an upcoming half marathon that was just 12 weeks after my operation. After meeting with one of my doctors and discussing it with my husband, I decided to try it. As I began my non-running training, I journaled about my experience. The result...a book about my training and half marathon experience, as well as about women's running in general: Grandma Wears a Running Skirt. The book is written for the average female runner by a non-professional-working-mom-wife-grandma who started running later in life. In other words, someone with whom others can relate! It is available for Kindle through Amazon.com. If you search Joyce Stath, it will come up. If you read it, I would appreciate any feedback. You can email me at joycestath@gmail.com. If you really like it, leave a review on Amazon! My friends and I all love to read about running, and I also like to write about it. Once we have been bitten by that running bug, we want to share the joy with anyone who'll lend us an ear.
I hope that each of you has a wonderful 2012, and that you meet your running goals. As for me, I hope to run at least two half marathons, and perhaps some other small races in between. I want to enjoy running with my friends. I absolutely love the time with my friends that running provides. A couple of us have also discovered Zumba, which is a great workout on off days. It is fun, but it is a tough workout. If you haven't tried it, find a class! You will be glad you did.
Happy New Year!!
