You know, I’m always game for trying anything that has the potential to add convenience and performance to my running. So the other day when I got a message from Oiselle about a new performance nutrition bar I had to check it out.
Picky Bars are the brainchild of distance superstar Lauren Fleshman, Olympic hopeful Stephanie Rothstein and All-American runner Jesse Thomas. Impressive, eh? I figured, OK, I’m all about supporting new products created by runners themselves, so over I hop on to the Picky Bar website and check things out.
Here’s the deal:
Picky Bars are made from 100% natural ingredients in the perfect 4:1 carbs to protein ratio - great for pre-run energy in the morning or for pulling out during or after your run. They currently come in 3 flavors, Lauren’s Mega Nuts, All-In-Almond (peanut free, vegan and sweetened with agave), and Nutless Wonder, which is completely nut free for those of us with allergies. You can buy Picky Bars in packs of 3 – 15 bars and also in an assortment pack. Shipping is free (love this).
These bars have a shelf life of 10-24 weeks from the date of purchase, which is pretty darn good for a product with NO preservatives.
I ordered an assortment pack of Picky Bars and received them like, 3 days later – amazing. The website and packaging is absolutely adorable, but the real test of course is in the taste and performance, right?
Hey – you know that awful “chalky” taste and consistency a lot of the energy bars have? Picky Bars are de-li-cious! Yum! I would eat this just for a snack; they’re so yummy with big chunks of fruit, nuts and seeds. Awesome! And how do they perform? Well, last week I had to postpone my early morning run to a little later in the AM and really needed some fuel fast. I ate Lauren’s Mega Nuts about 30 minutes before starting out and I never hit empty. In fact, I kind of had to force myself to eat something after running because I was still satisfied.
Seriously, if you are looking for some alternatives to those nasty preservative-filled bars and gels, or just trying to find something convenient to give you fuel for that early morning run, I HIGHLY recommend Picky Bars. These guys have a real winner on their hands and I can’t wait to see where they take the “Picky Revolution!”
By the way, Picky Bars is offering Team Discounts and I believe Traxee runners can qualify as a team under their guidelines. If you guys want to team up – I think we could put our hands on Picky Bars at a sweet discounted price. Just let me know if you’re interested and I’ll pull it together for us.
Meantime, you may live near a store that is carrying Picky Bars, but if not, it’s easy enough to get them in your hands quickly right off the Picky Bar website.
Major two-thumbs up for this great new entry in the sports nutrition market!
