Essential Hydration Facts and Sexy Vessels

Essential Hydration Facts and Sexy Vessels by bmoore

Yeah, it’s that time of year when I start harping on everyone I know about proper hydration. Of course, drinking enough water is equally important in the cold winter months, but as the weather warms, the risk of dehydration is especially high for runners.

Here are some fascinating H20 facts:

  • 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half the world's population.)

  • In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.

  • Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.

  • One glass of water shuts down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a U-Washington study.

  • Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

  • Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

  • A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

  • Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45% and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

And Now For Those Sexy Vessels
Does anyone remember those cross-body plastic water bottle holders that were really popular about 15 years ago? Since many of us have completely re-thought our use of plastic water bottles due to concerns about our health and the health of the planet, manufacturers have come up with some really cool alternatives.

Here are some of the sexiest vessels I’ve found. These are not the puppies that you take on your run, but the ones you take in the car or drop in your gym bag for after your run…beautiful, and functional.

Traxee user bmoore You know, I really like Camelback because I can't stand stuff bouncing around my waist when I run. I am pretty small and I can't ever seem to find a waist pack that fits snugly. mmm...opportunity?
