Traxees - join in the fight against autism! It’s not too late to signup for the ACT Today! for Military Families (ATMF) 10K/5K race and ONEHOPE Family Festival being held on April 2nd in beautiful Fiesta Island in San Diego, CA.
If you’re in California, this is a great event to kick off your spring racing season. There will be celebrities galore (this is California, after all), including Mark Christopher Lawrence, Kyle Massey, Kerstin Lundquist and Steve Atkinson , plus tons of activities and entertainment for families.
According to Department of Defense data, it is estimated that 1 in 88 military children have autism- a complex neurological disorder that has reached near-epidemic proportions. Research shows that in the treatment of autism, early intervention and intensive behavioral therapy are imperative to successful treatment of the disease. However, the continuum of care afforded to military children diagnosed with autism is disjointed and compromised due to frequent geographic moves and lack of effective services available publicly and through existing healthcare programs.
ACT Today! (Autism Care and Treatment Today!), is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to raise awareness and provide treatment services to families that cannot afford the treatments and services their children require. Recognizing the extraordinary challenges military families experience (waging a battle on two fronts - one for their country and another for their children), (ATMF) is a dedicated fund to assist military families impacted by autism.
ATMF works to improve awareness and delivery of effective autism services, and provides financial assistance to military families to help defray out-of-pocket costs associated with autism treatments and other quality of life programs. Entrance fees for the April 2nd race will help fund the organization’s assistance to this underserved community.
You can find out more about the event or make a donation (even if you can’t participate) at the event website.
