I'm back and I've got a question. Which running shoes should I buy? I'll be running almost daily. I've had a bunion removal over 3 years ago. But I don't get any pain there when I run. Well it's OK if you don't have an answer but I am doing some research to find the perfect shoes for me. I've seen Nike has a good variety of choices. I need that support and flexibility. I have two pairs of running shoes that I believe are not suitable for running.
So as my birthday apporaches I have asked for a new pair. One pair makes me feel like I'm running almost barefoot and the other I feel is more about fashion. They're both Pumas. I have wide feet also. But I've never purchased a W sized shoe. I'm a size 9. I'm also looking for something not so expensive.
Today, I ran on the treadmill. For about 20 minutes straight. The treadmill inclines to make it more difficult and it also changes the speed. I LOVE the built-in fan! I've had a horrible cough lately so all that running makes it worse! Also, my dad set up a TV so I could watch as I run but as the speed goes up, the TV freezes! :( It makes me laugh though, because I only get one channel. I refuse to run outside since there's about 4 feet of snow! But I prefer to run on a treadmill because on pavement I tend to give up and walk. On a treadmill I feel I can't fool the treadmill and the running option I'm on cannot be changed. I set my mind to do as it says. And complete the run!
My research for the perfect or close to perfect running shoe contunes.
Reporting to you live from the extra windy and snowy city!
I'm a size nine too. And usually a wide width. I recently bought two pair...Saucany Grid Iron Cushion and Ryka. I like them both, but found the Saucany better on long runs and Ryka for shorter runs. I tried on a dozen different brands and finally just went with what felt the fest as I jogged around the store! Asics just weren't as comfortable as the brands that I bought. Both were in the mid-range, but I got both on sale! Good luck on your quest for the perfect shoe!
I'm a major Asics fan too. I started in Nikes and will never go back. Seriously, listen to Joyce and go to a running specialty store - you have some great ones in the Chicago area - and get your stride and running style analyzed. That's the ONLY way to get the proper fit. Once the weather clears a bit I know you are going to get a hankering to run outside. The right running shoes and running bra are a girl's best friend! I also recommend that once you are ready to get off the treadmill, check out the Jeff Galloway site http://bit.ly/jgalloway and also a Couch to 5K http://bit.ly/couch25 training program. Running a training program is a great way to stick to your goals!
If you can, go to a running store and have them watch your stride. They can recommend the best shoe for your feet and your stride. I have found it is no more expensive and worth the effort. I LOVE Asics. I have had 5 pairs in the past 2 years, and have never been disappointed. I always check out shoes at races, and it seems that Asics are the most common. And you might want to try outdoor running - check out my post on the Perfect Winter Run. It can be fun.
