Raising money & Running.......

My husbands uncle has been diagnosed with cancer. He is unable to work, and is having a hard time paying bills. I am wondering if there is a way I could do races to raise money to go toward helping him and his family out??? All suggestions are appreciated....THANK YOU

Traxee user bmoore RFL - Ok so I asked Donna Deegan your questions this morning and she actually didn't know of any organization that could actually provide you with a ready-made website HOWEVER she did have two great suggestions. She said that you should do what she did when she first started - approach your favorite local running store - tell them what you're doing and see if you can get them involved. At the very least, they might be able to help publicize your cause or steer you in the right direction and #2 (I can't believe I didn't think of this before) Think about using social networking in your fund raising efforts. So I started checking this out and he easiest way to do this is to set up a blog on Word Press. Word Press has numerous plug-ins that support fundraising...check out this one: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/sponsorme/. Wordpress is not difficult to manage but I'll bet if you ask around your friends there is someone who is familiar enough with it to get you started. What do you think?

Traxee user bmoore Hey R4L! I just noticed in that IAWR conference that Donna Deegan is going to be talking about raising money for charity through running events. We have an opportunity to ask questions of the speakers at this event. Do you want to send me a specific set of questions for Donna regarding your situation? Let me know.

Traxee user bmoore Hi there! OK - so I talked to my friend and as it turns out, he actually went through a Foundation here in LA that specifically provides financial help to families dealing with cancer and the cost of cancer treatment. They are called the Talbert Family Foundtion, however they only deal with LA area families who have children in need. HOWEVER, what I think you should do is go to their website athttp://www.talbertfamilyfoundation.org/ and click on their "Contact Us" link. These folks are pretty well connected and they may be able to steer you towards a similar organization in your area. This foundation is the majr sponsor of the race I was (supposed to do) last Sunday -so they should have some information as to how you can proceed. Also see the following: http://www.cancercompass.com/message-board/message/all,18143,0.htm where there are numerous resources to steer you in the direction of finding help. RFL, what area do you live in again?

Traxee user bmoore Oh I am sooo sorry to hear about this. I can't imagine what you guys are going through. I think raising money running is an awesome way for you to help. I have a friend who raised money for his grandchild who was diagnosed with leukemia by setting up a donation website and I am sure you can do the same thing. Let me find out from him what site he used (it was one of those easy to do things and I I remember correctly, it sends out email for you to friends and family to. I will get back to you...
