I swear it happens every year. My husband and I go to the store and then argue about how much candy we really need to buy to have enough to distribute to our local bands of trick-or-treaters. Invariably, I give in to him when he assures me that he will haul those evil little unused bags of partially hydrogenated corn syrup out of the house the next morning...but I know its there tonight. Even now those Mini-Muskateers are calling my name. The sound is deafening. How bad could just a few little candy bars be? I'm REALLY good most of the year. I deserve a little treat, right?
Well, I started checking this Halloween candy thing out and realized that those cute little suckers really pack a calorie wallop. Consider this: women roughly burn about 100 calories for every mile we run, so just ONE of the little buggers mean an extra mile just to "break even!" Oh, and when was the last time YOU ate "just one?"
Here's a little calorie reference guide on Halloween favorites:
1 Mini Snickers - 70 calories
1 "fun size" pack of M & Ms - 93 calories
1 handful of candy corn - 140 calories!
1 snack size box of Milk Duds - 40 calories
1 Mini Twix - 50 calories
1 "fun-size" Kit Kat - 73 calories
1 Hershey's "fun size" chocolate bar - 67 calories
1 snack size Mr. Goodbar - 90 calories
1 Reese's Peanut Butter Cup - 80 calories
...Need I say more?
I'm going to stop writing this now and take all the unopened bags of candy (I TOLD him we bought too much!) and put them in my husband's car NOW before the damage is done! Well...maybe just one little taste before they go....;-)
So, how did you do over Halloween?
