My 2nd 5K Race 11/07/2010

Just yesterday a fellow runner (someone I look up to and barely know :D) invited me to the Starbucks 5K, this will be my second 5K race but I think I am going to do better than my first. My first 5K I had finished in 29 minutes and 58 seconds (just 2 seconds before 30 minutes), I was doing 9:43 a mile and was in pain. Two weeks before that I had injured my IT band and didn't know it, not until my 10K race about a month later. But I am better prepared and my last 3 mile run (this last Saturday October 23) turned out to be 3.25 miles instead of 3 and I ran that in about 30:38 minutes so about 9:29 minutes a mile. I am really excited for this run, because I know that I am ready and as long as I don't do anything stupid, and just stay around 2.75 miles twice this week and my 3.50 miles this Saturday, and a planned 3 miler next Tuesday I should be very ready for the race November 7th! I am excited!

Traxee user bmoore Oh yeah - seriously keep using it. Especially if your ITB thing is bad - it keeps the blood flowing through the area...it's such a pain though ;-0

Traxee user FreeSoul87 I haven't used it for over 2 weeks because I thought everything was getting better, but I think I will get back to using it tonight for prevention as well.

Traxee user bmoore RU using a foam roller? I think you said you were before, but I can't remember. It REALLY helped me with my ITB problem and I still use it for "preventative" maintenance.

Traxee user FreeSoul87 I know! I love the races, even if I didn't do too great at the 10K, the competitive vibe, feeling everyone else's excitement just gets me going! My IT band has been doing pretty good, last Saturday it get a little irritated with a 3 miler, but I think if I take it slower this week and stay just below 3 miles tonight and Wednesday or Thursday, I will be fine for Sunday's run. Thanks again though!

Traxee user bmoore Oh! I am so thrilled to hear that you are doing this again. Don't you think that these 5Ks really keep you motivated? There is just something about being around all those other runners and the excitement of a race. How is that ITB feeling?

Traxee user FreeSoul87 Thank you! I can't wait and I hope it goes really well, because the following Saturday I'm running another 5K as well.
