Tired of the same old road races? Looking to change it up a bit and have a wild and crazy time? Fantasize about dumping a plate of spaghetti on your head? Mud running might just be your ticket. There are a number of "mud runs" being held all over the country, so you're sure to find one close to you. So what exactly is a mud run? It's a (usually short distance) race that takes you through an obstacle course of military-like exercises (nets, beams, climbs, etc.) plus a series of VERY muddy trails and pools. You'll get covered in the stuff, but who cares? It's all good clean fun...check it out!
Yes they were. On the course they were cheering you on, but also yelling at you to do the obstacles right like you were a Marine in boot camp! It was great!
Oh wow! OK - so that's pretty cool. I think its hilarious that they were offering shampoo, cut, etc. Did you guys have Marines screaming at you like in the videos I've seen?
Goodie bag was average, got a tech-tee and small Paul Mitchell samples of shampoo and detangler. Paul Mitchell tent was there and girls were offering more shampoo after race that you could take to the hoses, but I also saw, at the end of the 5k, 3 chairs with people getting haircuts! Guess you could run, get a mud bath/facial/exfoliant from te course, wash your hair and get a cut! Also, every finisher got a medal, but additional larger, heavier medals were given out to top 5 placers in age groups. 1st place got a certificate for a free pair of Merrell shoes.
OOOOh wait - did I hear the word "pics?" Can you give us a link in F-book? Would love to see! Sounds like so much fun! Was there any good schwag at the end?
It depended one how far you got into the mud. One guy I was with pretty much dove into it. My legs and arms were covered, I had some on my face and neck, we all had some in are ears and in your fingernails, and if you got scraped up anywhere, it was mud and blood. Some people were so covered you couldn't make out their faces.
I wore an old pair of running shoes that I had demoted to "yard shoes" and then just tossed them in the trash after the race. (there were a lot of sneakers in the trash bins at the race.) Still working on trying to get the clothes clean, but the one guy had a good idea- he brought all old, clothes that he just tossed too!
My non- runner friends all agreed that it looked like fun, but some thought the pics were gross. You definitely have to go into it WILLING to get dirty- just to go with it and have fun. It was kind of like reverting to childghood- playing in the dirt and not caring!
It really does look like amazing fun and the women I know that did the one in Castaic had a blast. OK - so how dirty did you really get and...my other burning question...how did you get your running shoes clean? :-)
