OK – no lectures about protecting your skin when you run, but lets face it, as runners, we spend a lot of time outside. Although we’re nearing the end of warmer weather, realize that your face, ears, lips, arms and hands still need protection from sun, wind and cold. We all want to be running when we’re 70, but we definitely don’t want to look like a piece of shoe leather in Asics!
I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely sick and tired of hearing manufacturers’ claims about no-run technology, and non pore clogging formulas. I guess I must have tried them all over the years but I have yet to find a product that protects through sweat AND doesn’t clog my skin. Well – I think I’ve finally found the answer; it’s SCAPE.
Early last summer we posted an article on Traxee.com about sunscreens and the much higher standards for sunscreen effectiveness in Europe. Well, SCAPE Athlete Sunblock provides the highest level of UVA protection according to the Boots rating (Europe) and the JCIA rating (Japan). Plus, SCAPE products have antioxidants that remove free radicals from your skin for cellular protection, and are proven to be 5 times more waterproof and sweat proof that one of the leading sport sunblocks. You can read more about SCAPE’s effectiveness from Stephen Regenold at Gear Junkie here, or read the testimonials on the SCAPE website.
SCAPE is the brainchild of Dr. Nic Martens, a triathlete and biochemist from the University of Cambridge who partnered with two-time Ironman World Champion Craig Alexander to bring these high-performance skincare products to market. Science…meet serious athlete.
An interesting note, SCAPE products are noncomedogenic – allowing your skin to breathe naturally so that your body’s core temperature won’t rise; an important feature for endurance athletes seeking peak performance.
The line includes an SPF50 Sunblock lotion (with Vitamin E and antioxidants), a convenient Face Stick that can be applied to sweaty skin, and (yay!) Lip Balm (50+ SPF, Vitamin E and Aloe).
Where to Buy
You can’t purchase SCAPE products from their website, but they are available online at RoadRunner Sports and at a number of dealers all across the country. Use the handy Dealer Locator to find a retailer that’s convenient to you.
