Running is my passion, my friend and my lifestyle.
I started running purely by fluke. A sedentary ex-smoker, I knew that somehow I had to change. One day I went with my husband to the gym and just went up and walked around the track. All around me women runners were flying by. They had amazing bodies and they actually looked like they were having fun! So I started...just a few minutes at a time, until I got winded. Over the weeks, a few minutes turned into 10, then 20, then a half hour...it felt so good I totally got hooked. But I never saw myself as a runner, and certainly not as an athlete.
I remember one cold winter morning I was running through a favorite forest trail. As I cleared a dense copse of trees, I saw a little girl with her father by the river bank. "Look Daddy," she cried..."Here comes a runner!" I actuallly looked around wondering who she was talking about!
It takes so much courage to change. Whether you've been running for 20 years or you're just getting started, each time you lace up your shoes, it's an act of courage.
